2026 Lexus RX 500h F Sport Review: The Luxury Hybrid SUV Reimagined
Oliver Bennett·26 April 2026·12 min read
The RX 500h replaces the V6 with a turbocharged 2.4L system that produces more power, better economy and — finally — a Lexus with real performance credentials.
Verdict
Pros: - 371 hp system with astonishing 7.4 L/100 km economy - Finest interior quality in this price segment - Best-predicted reliability for any luxury SUV in UAE
Cons: - No third row option - Infotainment less intuitive than BMW iDrive 8 - Suspension too firm for UAE speed hump-heavy suburbs
Price range: AED 238,000 – 271,000 Best for: Buyers who want maximum reliability with luxury-car execution Not for: Families needing 7 seats or performance-first buyers
Introduction
Lexus has long suffered from a reputation as the sensible choice — dependable, refined, but lacking the character of its German rivals. The RX 500h changes that. I drove the F Sport variant for 10 days in Dubai and on the Hatta mountain road. After 900 km, I came back convinced this is the best mid-size luxury SUV available in the UAE.

Design & Styling
The 2026 RX's exterior update is welcome. The exaggerated spindle grille of the previous generation has been replaced by a more restrained version that sits flush with the hood line. The LED daytime running lights adopt an arrow-graphic motif that is distinctive without being aggressive.
The F Sport adds 21-inch dark alloys, mesh inserts and a sportier front bumper. On Sonic Titanium paint — a new metallic colour for 2026 — the RX 500h looks genuinely sophisticated.
Interior Quality & Practicality
The RX 500h's cabin is, in my assessment, the best interior for the money in the UAE luxury SUV segment. The combination of Yamaha-tuned Mark Levinson audio (17 speakers), semi-aniline leather, genuine metal switchgear and the 14-inch panoramic display creates an environment that feels genuinely premium rather than merely expensive.
Rear legroom is generous — 930 mm is class-leading. The 612-litre boot is practical for family use. No third-row option is available for the RX.
Infotainment & Technology
The 14-inch touchscreen runs Toyota/Lexus' latest software — faster and more logical than previous generations, though still a step behind BMW's iDrive 8.5 in intuitiveness. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The navigation handles UAE roads accurately.
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 includes: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Intersection Support, Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Tracing Assist, and Lane Change Assist. All performed correctly during UAE testing.
Driving Experience
The Turbo Hybrid System
This is the RX 500h's revolution. The combination of 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol with a rear-electric-motor multi-stage hybrid produces 371 hp and 550 Nm. The 0–100 time of 5.9 seconds is legitimate performance territory, delivered with surprising smoothness.
In Sport+ mode, the transmission holds gears and the throttle responds with sharpness that previous RX models could not manage. On the Hatta mountain road, the RX 500h cornered with actual purpose — the F Sport's tuned suspension and rear electric torque vectoring creating genuine driver engagement.
Fuel Economy
Over 900 km of mixed UAE driving, I achieved 7.8 L/100 km — fractionally above the official 7.4 figure. For 371 hp, this is extraordinary. The comparable BMW X5 M50i (530 hp, admittedly) uses 13+ L/100 km.
Which Trim?
RX 350h (AED 238,000): 246 hp, standard hybrid. The sensible choice — still excellent. RX 500h F Sport (AED 271,000): 371 hp, tuned suspension, F Sport aesthetics. The AED 33,000 premium buys a substantially different driving experience.
Running Costs
Lexus 10-year hybrid battery warranty in GCC. 5-year/unlimited km vehicle warranty. Annual service: AED 1,600–2,200. Insurance Group 18: AED 5,500–7,500/year. Predicted 5-year resale: 66% of purchase price.
Rivals
BMW X5 xDrive40i (AED 359,000): Better driving dynamics, more powerful, less fuel-efficient. AED 88,000 more expensive. Mercedes GLE 300 d 4MATIC (AED 349,000): More interior tech, but Lexus wins on reliability and resale.
Our Verdict
The 2026 Lexus RX 500h F Sport is the complete package for UAE luxury SUV buyers who want the reliability of a Lexus, the performance of a German rival and a fuel bill that does not embarrass them. It is the best Lexus I have tested, and among the best value propositions in the UAE luxury market.
Recommended: RX 500h F Sport in Sonic Titanium with Flare Yellow interior (a stunning combination).
