2026 Genesis GV80 Review: The Luxury SUV That Questions the German Narrative

Three years after its UAE launch, the GV80 has proven its quality to sceptics. The 2026 update adds Magma dual-tone interior and improved ADAS. We test if it still deserves its AED 279,000 price tag.

Verdict

Stars: 4.4 / 5 Three years in, the GV80 has earned its place. The interior quality is genuinely exceptional, the twin-turbo V6 is excellent, and the Genesis dealer experience in the UAE has matured. At AED 279,000, it offers more car than its German rivals at the same price — if you can accept that fewer people will recognise the badge.

Pros: - Interior quality rivals cars costing AED 120,000 more - 375 hp twin-turbo V6 is refined and powerful - Genesis 5-year door-to-door service is best-in-class

Cons: - Brand recognition lower than BMW/Mercedes in UAE - Resale values not yet at German parity - No third-row option

Price range: AED 249,000 – 319,000 Best for: Buyers who prioritise interior quality and technology over badge prestige Not for: UAE buyers for whom brand recognition is the primary purchase driver

Introduction

I had the GV80 3.5T AWD for 12 days across Dubai — including a dinner hosted by a client who had never heard of Genesis, which led to an extended explanation. That scenario — encountering the brand's UAE awareness challenge — is the only real argument against the GV80 as a purchase.

Interior Quality

The GV80's interior is, simply, exceptional. The 14.5-inch Supervision curved display, Lexicon premium audio, quilted Nappa leather (standard on 3.5T), and genuine open-pore eucalyptus wood trim create an environment that I would place alongside the BMW 7 Series' cabin for material quality.

The Magma dual-tone interior — dark brown leather with lighter accents — added to the 2026 model is the best interior palette available in any Korean luxury car and rivals Bentley's most approachable cabin offerings.

Rear legroom at 987 mm is class-leading for a 5-seat luxury SUV.

Driving Experience

The 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 in the GV80 is one of the best engines in this segment. 375 hp and 530 Nm arrive with smooth linearity — no turbo lag, no torque steer, just progressive power. On Sheikh Zayed Road at full acceleration, the sound is a distant, refined growl.

Ride quality on the optional Electronically Controlled Suspension is excellent. The default mode absorbs Dubai's compulsory speed humps without drama; Sport mode is genuinely sporty without harshness.

Running Costs

Genesis offers the best warranty terms of any luxury brand in the UAE: 5-year/unlimited km vehicle warranty, 10-year powertrain warranty, and door-to-door service collection — Genesis sends a technician to collect your car for service and delivers a loaner. For busy UAE executives, this is a genuine lifestyle benefit.

Rivals

BMW X5 xDrive40i (AED 339,000): AED 60,000 more. Better brand recognition, better resale. Less interior quality per dirham. Volvo XC90 T8 (AED 287,000): Better PHEV credentials, strong safety scores. Less performance.

Our Verdict

The GV80 3.5T is the best value proposition in the mid-size luxury SUV segment. It loses to German rivals on resale value and brand recognition — both real considerations in the UAE market — but wins on interior quality, warranty terms and value per dirham spent.

Recommended: GV80 3.5T AWD in Uyuni White with Magma interior.
