The CR-V Hybrid doesn't often make headlines in the UAE, where the Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4 attract more attention. But after 10 days and 900 km of UAE driving, I can tell you the CR-V's case is compelling precisely because it focuses entirely on what families actually need from a compact SUV.

Practicality
The CR-V's packaging is outstanding. The flat-floor rear allows three adults to sit abreast without hip contact — unusual in a compact SUV. Rear legroom at 975 mm is 36 mm more than the RAV4 and 70 mm more than the Tucson.
The 589-litre boot — largest in class — accommodates a pushchair plus a week's groceries simultaneously. The hands-free tailgate (standard on Touring trim) opens if you wave a foot under the bumper.
Driving Experience
Honda's i-MMD two-motor hybrid system operates differently from Toyota's approach. Instead of using the petrol engine to drive the wheels directly, Honda's system uses the petrol engine primarily as a generator, with the electric motors doing the primary driving work. The result is an exceptionally smooth power delivery — almost EV-like in character.
Over 900 km of UAE mixed driving, I averaged 6.1 L/100 km — better than Honda's claimed 6.3. At 20,000 km/year, that is a fuel saving of approximately AED 4,700/year vs the petrol CR-V.
