BYD Opens 10 New UAE Showrooms — Signals Long-Term GCC Commitment

BYD's aggressive UAE expansion adds 10 outlets across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. A Shark pickup and Atto 8 7-seater head the 2026 lineup.

What happened: BYD, the world's largest EV manufacturer by volume, opens 10 new UAE dealerships in Q1 2026, expanding from its existing 6 outlets. When: Phased opening January–March 2026 Who it affects: UAE EV buyers seeking Chinese-brand alternatives Key figure: 16 total UAE showrooms after expansion — the largest Chinese automotive retail footprint in the GCC Source: BYD Middle East official announcement

BYD has confirmed the opening of 10 new UAE dealerships across all major emirates, bringing its total UAE network to 16 outlets by March 2026. The expansion is the largest single-wave dealership opening by any manufacturer in the UAE since Kia's 2019 network expansion.

What We Know

New showrooms open in Dubai (2 — Deira and Al Quoz), Abu Dhabi (2 — Khalidiyah and Mussafah), Sharjah (1), Ajman (1), Ras Al Khaimah (1), Fujairah (1), Al Ain (1) and Umm Al Quwain (1).

The timing coincides with the launch of three new models in UAE:

BYD Shark — Electric Pickup at AED 189,000

The Shark is BYD's first pickup truck for the UAE market. It uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain — a 1.5L engine plus two electric motors — producing 430 hp combined. Off-road ground clearance is 224 mm. Payload: 1,000 kg.

This positions the Shark against the Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara at a price point that undercuts both significantly while offering electrification.

BYD Atto 8 — 6-Seat SUV at AED 169,000

The Atto 8 is a 3-row SUV on a dedicated EV platform. Battery options: 91.3 kWh (530 km WLTP) or 100 kWh (580 km WLTP). UAE launch trim at AED 169,000 includes a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, 12-speaker sound system and captain's chairs in the second row.

BYD Seal 2026 Update

The Seal sedan — BYD's best-seller in UAE — receives an updated 2026 interior and the latest DiPilot intelligent driving assistance suite, at the same price of AED 149,900.

What This Means for Buyers

BYD's expanded UAE presence matters because it addresses the primary concern of early adopters: service network accessibility. With 16 showrooms across all seven emirates, the concern about travelling long distances for service is substantially reduced.

The Atto 8 at AED 169,000 competes directly with the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade — petrol SUVs at similar price points — and offers zero running fuel costs in exchange for a higher purchase price. The equation becomes increasingly favourable as petrol prices rise.

What Happens Next

BYD Middle East has indicated further model launches in H2 2026, including the Sea Lion 6 and a GCC-specific version of the Han L sedan. The company has also indicated it is exploring manufacturing partnerships in the UAE — though no confirmed agreement has been announced.
