Chevrolet was co-founded in 1911 in Detroit by racing driver Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder William Durant. Louis was a Swiss-born racing legend whose name gave the brand instant performance credibility. The iconic Bowtie badge — whose origins remain debated — became one of America's most recognised symbols of affordable, dependable motoring. Chevrolet has been America's best-selling car brand for most of the past century.
