Porsche was founded by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart in 1931, initially as an engineering consultancy that designed vehicles for others including the Volkswagen Beetle. The first car to carry the Porsche name was the 356 of 1948, built by Ferry Porsche in a Gmünd, Austria workshop from Volkswagen components. The 911, launched in 1963, became one of the longest-lived and most beloved sports cars ever made — still in continuous production today. Porsche's combination of everyday usability and extraordinary performance remains unmatched.
