Renault was founded by brothers Louis, Marcel and Fernand Renault in Boulogne-Billancourt, France in 1899. Louis built his first car in a garden shed at age 21, and it immediately attracted orders from neighbours. Renault became one of France's most important industrial companies, surviving two world wars and playing a key role in motorising France's working class. The brand's Formula One success in the turbo era and its modern EV leadership with the Zoe cemented its status as a French national champion.
