Dongfeng Motor Corporation was established in 1969 as Second Automobile Works in Shiyan, China, part of Mao Zedong's strategic industrial dispersal inland. The company was renamed Dongfeng (East Wind) in 1992 as China opened its economy. Today Dongfeng is one of China's four largest state-owned automakers, operating joint ventures with Nissan, Honda and PSA Groupe. The brand has also launched its own passenger car and EV labels to compete domestically.
