Jaguar began life in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, founded by William Lyons and William Walmsley in Blackpool, England to manufacture motorcycle sidecars. Lyons transformed the company into a car maker in the 1930s, adopting the Jaguar name in 1945 after SS Cars became uncomfortable post-war. The XK120 of 1948 stunned the world as the fastest production car of its time. Jaguar's 'Grace, Space and Pace' motto defined a uniquely British take on performance luxury.
