Lucid Motors was founded in 2007 in Newark, California, originally as Atieva before rebranding in 2016. The company was co-founded by former Tesla vice president Peter Rawlinson and several other Tesla alumni who set out to build a luxury EV with class-leading range and technology. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund became the company's largest investor in 2018, providing the capital needed to bring the Air sedan to production. Lucid Air achieved the longest range of any production electric vehicle — over 500 miles on a single charge.
