Polestar began in 1996 as a Swedish touring car racing team before becoming the official performance division of Volvo Cars. When Geely acquired Volvo in 2010, Polestar's future was transformed — in 2017 it was relaunched as an independent premium electric performance brand. Polestar's first car, the Polestar 1, was a carbon-fibre hybrid grand tourer produced in just 1,500 units. The brand has since committed to a fully electric future, building minimalist Scandinavian-design EVs that challenge Tesla's design dominance.
