Ram was separated from Dodge in 2010 by Chrysler to become a standalone truck and commercial vehicle brand. The decision recognised that Ram truck buyers had a distinct identity and set of values from Dodge car buyers. Ram traces its truck heritage back to the 1981 Dodge Ram, named after the rugged mountain sheep and featuring the iconic ram's head hood ornament. Today Ram competes directly with Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado as one of America's three great truck brands.
