Soueast Motor was established in 1995 in Fuzhou, Fujian province as a joint venture between China Motor Corporation of Taiwan and Fujian provincial investors. Initially producing vehicles under licence from Mitsubishi, Soueast developed its own designs as Chinese engineering capability matured. The brand has maintained a presence in southern China and select export markets across Southeast Asia. Soueast represents a transitional generation of Chinese brands building identity through gradual domestication of imported technology.
