Best Electric Cars to Buy in the UAE (2026 Guide)
Arjun Sharma·22 April 2026·12 min read
Free DEWA charging, zero registration fees and a 1,500-station network. We compare every EV worth considering for UAE roads.
Why This Guide Exists
Buying an electric car in the UAE has never made more practical sense. DEWA's EV Green Charger network is free for non-commercial EVs until end of 2026, registration fees are waived for zero-emission vehicles, and the national charging network has crossed 1,500 public stations. Yet the choice of EVs has exploded — and not all of them suit UAE roads, heat, or long desert runs.
This guide covers eight EVs available right now in showrooms across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Every price is in AED with VAT. Range figures are WLTP but we note real-world estimates where we have tested the cars locally.
How We Chose These Cars
We selected EVs currently available at UAE dealerships with confirmed GCC-spec pricing. Models must have a working fast-charge network (DEWA, ADNOC, or brand-owned). We excluded any model not officially sold in the GCC.

Our Top Pick: Tesla Model Y Long Range
The Tesla Model Y Long Range remains the most sensible EV buy in the UAE for one simple reason: the Supercharger network. With over 40 Tesla Supercharger stations across the UAE and another 12 opening by Q3 2026, range anxiety on the Abu Dhabi–Dubai–Al Ain triangle is essentially eliminated.
The 533 km WLTP figure translates to a reliable 430–460 km in UAE summer heat — better than almost any rival. Over-the-air updates keep the software current, and the DEWA free-charge benefit applies.
Starting price: AED 189,900 Recommended trim: Long Range AWD — worth the AED 20,000 premium over Standard Range for UAE distances.
Hyundai IONIQ 6 AWD
The IONIQ 6 is the car that surprised us most in UAE conditions. Its 800V architecture means a 10–80% charge in under 18 minutes at a compatible 350 kW charger — among the fastest available today.
The exterior is aerodynamic to the point of being polarising, but it works: 0.21 Cd drag coefficient helps preserve range on the Abu Dhabi motorway. Rear seat space is surprisingly generous for a sedan silhouette.
What it does well: Ultra-fast charging, exceptional range, roomy rear cabin. Weakness: Less dealer coverage outside Dubai; touchscreen can be fussy in direct sunlight.
| Spec | IONIQ 6 AWD |
|---|---|
| Price from | AED 174,900 |
| Range (WLTP) | 519 km |
| 0–100 km/h | 5.1 sec |
| Charge (10–80%) | 18 min |
BMW iX xDrive40
The iX is BMW's flagship EV statement — wide, imposing, and full of technology. The curved iDrive 8 display dominates a cabin that feels genuinely futuristic. Rear seat space matches a 5 Series, and the boot at 500 litres is practical for family airport runs.
What it does well: Cabin quality, ride comfort on Dubai's smooth highways, BMW dealer network across UAE. Weakness: Charging speed (150 kW max) lags behind Korean rivals; high price.
Mercedes EQS 450+
If your priority is the longest possible single charge range in the UAE, nothing touches the EQS 450+ at 770 km WLTP. That equates to a genuine Abu Dhabi–Dubai–Fujairah loop and back without charging.
The MBUX Hyperscreen — a 56-inch curved display spanning the full dashboard — is genuinely unlike anything else on the road. The ride quality on UAE highways is exceptional.
Weakness: At AED 489,000, you are paying for bragging rights as much as the technology.
Kia EV6 GT-Line
The EV6 shares its 800V platform with the IONIQ 6 and offers the same ultra-fast charging in a crossover body that suits UAE buyers who want practical SUV space without the size of a Q8. The GT-Line adds Matrix LED headlamps, Meridian audio and a sportier interior.
BYD Seal Performance
BYD's Seal is the disruptor. At AED 149,900, it undercuts all comparable EVs while offering 570 km range and a 0–100 time of 3.8 seconds in Performance trim. Build quality has improved substantially in the 2026 model year — the interior finally feels worthy of the price.
Weakness: BYD's UAE service network is growing but still smaller than established brands.
What to Look For When Buying an EV in UAE
Range vs Real World
UAE summer heat (40°C+) reduces battery efficiency by 15–25%. Always apply a 20% discount to WLTP figures when planning long trips. The Mercedes EQS, Tesla Model Y LR and BYD Seal hold range best in heat.
Charging Network
DEWA has the widest free network. Tesla Superchargers are the most reliable and fastest. ADNOC has chargers at petrol stations across Abu Dhabi which are convenient but slower.
Warranty
Look for 8-year battery warranty. All models above offer this. BMW and Mercedes offer 5-year vehicle warranty on EV models sold in UAE.
Annual Registration Savings
Zero-emission vehicles in UAE pay no annual registration fees (waived until at least 2027). On a AED 300,000 car that is a saving of approximately AED 1,600 per year.
New vs Used: Which Should You Buy?
New EVs in the UAE have never been better value thanks to registration waivers and DEWA free charging. A 2-year-old Tesla Model Y still commands 80–85% of its original price, so depreciation is low — but buying new gives you the latest battery chemistry and software.
Used EVs from expat sellers can offer genuine savings: a 2023 Model Y with 40,000 km might trade at AED 140,000 — saving AED 50,000 vs new.
Finance & Running Costs
| Cost | Monthly |
|---|---|
| Typical PCP on AED 190,000 EV (48 months, 20% down) | AED 3,200 |
| DEWA charging cost (free until Dec 2026) | AED 0 |
| Insurance (Group 12–15 EVs) | AED 550–800/month |
| Annual service | AED 900–1,800 (no oil changes) |
Verdict
Top pick: Tesla Model Y Long Range — best Supercharger network, proven UAE reliability. Best value: Kia EV6 GT-Line — 800V fast charging at a price nobody else matches. Best for luxury: Mercedes EQS 450+ if budget allows; BMW iX xDrive40 for a more dynamic option.
If you need maximum range for cross-country UAE driving, the EQS 450+ is untouchable. If budget is the priority, the BYD Seal Performance delivers astonishing value.
