2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Review: The Benchmark Gets Better
Hamza Khan·24 April 2026·11 min read
The GLC 300 4MATIC has been the UAE's best-selling luxury SUV for three consecutive years. The 2026 update sharpens the tech, refines the ride and raises the bar.
Verdict
Pros: - MBUX Superscreen is the best infotainment in class - Exceptional build quality and material quality - Strong residual values in UAE market
Cons: - Rides harshly over UAE speed humps without AMG Line suspension - Boot is 15 litres smaller than BMW X3 - 48V mild hybrid system adds complexity without EV range
Price range: AED 239,000 – 339,000 Best for: Status-conscious buyers who use their SUV primarily on tarmac Not for: Off-road enthusiasts or buyers who prioritise driving dynamics
Introduction
Three years after its full redesign, the GLC 300 4MATIC continues to outsell everything in its segment in the UAE. Dealership waiting lists in Dubai were running to 8 weeks as recently as Q4 2025. The 2026 update — a mid-cycle refresh — adds an updated MBUX interface, revised ADAS suite, a new AMG Line Exterior+ package and a slightly revised rear bumper.
I drove it for a week in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, covering 1,200 km of mixed use.

Design & Styling
The 2026 GLC's exterior changes are subtle: the front grille now features a new 3D-textured insert, the LED unit design is slightly revised, and the AMG Line Exterior+ adds 21-inch wheels with a deeper front apron. In Obsidian Black with the AMG Line package, it is a genuinely handsome car.
The rear hatch design remains unchanged — still among the most elegant in the segment, particularly the slim LED strip. The proportions are right: taller than the BMW X3 but not ungainly.
Interior Quality & Practicality
The GLC's cabin remains the segment's reference point. MBUX Superscreen — the optional 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen with haptic feedback — is more intuitive in 2026 thanks to revised software that has reduced menu depth by 30%. The Hey Mercedes voice assistant now handles UAE-specific requests including navigation to specific landmarks and Salik top-up reminders.
Materials throughout are outstanding. Nappa leather (optional), genuine open-pore wood trim, and precisely fitted panels give the GLC an interior that justifies its price more convincingly than most competitors.
Rear seat legroom is adequate for passengers under 180 cm. The 620-litre boot accommodates a family's weekly supermarket shop.
Driving Experience
Highway
The 2.0L engine with 48V mild hybrid integration feels smooth at motorway speeds. The mild hybrid adds torque fill during gear changes — you rarely feel the automatic searching for ratios. At 120 km/h on the Abu Dhabi motorway, the cabin is extremely quiet. I averaged 8.9 L/100 km over my 1,200 km test — accurate to the official figure.
City
In Dubai traffic, the GLC is composed and easy to manoeuvre. Air suspension (optional, AED 14,900) improves this significantly — over Dubai's compulsory speed humps without it, the GLC can feel jiggly at 20 km/h.
This is my only meaningful criticism of the GLC in UAE conditions: the standard steel suspension is tuned for European road quality. The UAE's pervasive speed humps expose its limits. The air suspension option is not optional in the UAE — budget for it.
Infotainment & Technology
MBUX 2026 revision includes improved OTA updates, faster map loading and enhanced Arabic voice recognition. The augmented reality navigation overlay — which superimposes turn arrows onto a live camera feed of the road ahead — is the best implementation I have seen and works correctly on UAE roads.
Standard safety kit: Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping, Attention Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. For 2026, Mercedes adds Highway Assist — a level 2 semi-autonomous system for motorway driving. Tested on the E11, it maintained lane position and speed for over 40 km without driver intervention.
Running Costs
The 48V mild hybrid reduces fuel consumption by approximately 0.6 L/100 km in city driving. Insurance typically AED 5,000–7,000/year. Five-year service package: AED 7,800. Strong residuals — expect 58–62% after 5 years.
Rivals
BMW X3 M40i (AED 265,000): More driver-focused, larger boot. Less luxurious interior. Better for driving enthusiasts.
[Audi Q5](/ae/cars/audi-q5-2026) 55 TFSI (AED 249,000): Excellent build quality but less intuitive infotainment and lower UAE market presence.
[Volvo XC60](/ae/cars/volvo-xc60-2026) T8 (AED 287,000): Strong PHEV credentials, outstanding safety scores, Scandinavian interior design. Less brand prestige in UAE.
Our Verdict
The GLC 300 4MATIC earns its UAE market leadership. The 2026 update refines rather than revolutionises — which is exactly right for a car that has little left to fix. The MBUX system, build quality and brand prestige combine to make this the most natural recommendation in the segment.
Get the air suspension. Budget for the MBUX Superscreen. In Obsidian Black with AMG Line Exterior+, this is the best-looking mid-size luxury SUV in the UAE.
Recommended: GLC 300 4MATIC AMG Line with Air Suspension and MBUX Superscreen packages.
